How is theological reconstruction carried out in China’s 18 Protestant theological seminaries?
JI: For theological education it is the same as in the churches, we encourage seminars and discussions. We provide extra reference books to seminary teachers as well as well as computers to encourage research and writing. We have even paid advanced royalties to some professors to encourage them to author some new theological works, although we haven’t seen any books yet! (laughter) This is a good lead to the publication work of the CCC. Are you kept busy in this area? CAO: We have over 200 publications ranging from daily devotionals, journals, hymnals and academic works, to the DVD that you saw today (Protestant Churches in China). The Amity Printing Press in Nanjing has printed an average of 2 million Bibles each year since 1987. The New Chinese Hymnal which we published in 1983, is over 20 years old and not so new anymore.
