How is the test interpreted?
A ‘negative’ result occurs when only the C-line appears; this means there is no hemoglobin present in the fecal sample or it is present below detectable levels. A ‘positive’ result occurs when both the C- and T-lines appear; this means the hemoglobin level in the fecal sample is above the level of detection and occult blood may be present. A doctor should carry out the appropriate follow-up tests to determine the cause of the bleeding.
