How is the SYC organized, and how does it operate?
Twice each month, the Sooke Youth Council prepares an agenda through email, and then tackles it in person at a two hour meeting, making decisions by a colour-coded voting system and (when possible) good ol’ fashioned consensus. When especially big or immediate projects are brought up and approved by the group, sometimes a smaller working committee will be struck. These smaller teams may include only members, or a broad selection of individuals from the greater community. The council makes an effort to ensure that each meeting is accessible and understandable; the process is described and demonstrated to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Members are invited to bring their own activities and ‘ice-breakers’ to step up the energy and get the dialogue in motion.
