How is the students contribution to intellectual property worked out in practice?
This is very difficult! One has to take into account the status of existing IP before the student commenced work. Also, contributions of a supervisor and possibly other staff members and students to a particular piece of intellectual property need to be considered. Regular discussions are perhaps the best way to reach agreement. The Head of Department can also be consulted if required, especially if no agreement can be reached.
