How is the Science Fair judged?
The annual school-wide Science Fair is an opportunity for students to study a topic of their choosing, from any branch of science, and become and expert at it. Students prepare visual displays, written reports and oral presentations. In addition to each student receiving a letter grade from his/her respective science teacher, projects are also judged for the competition portion of the Science Fair. Typically, AIS arranges for volunteer judges from the outside Muslim community who have backgrounds in various scientific fields (including professionals and university students). Occasionally, in the absence of available community volunteers, the school turns to parents to assist with the judging. As a matter of yearly practice, all judges are briefed by the Science teacher and Vice Principal on the criteria against which to evaluate student projects and presentations. It is emphasized to the judges that each must use only the criteria that is provided by the school, not their own personal
