How is the Registry funded?

We wanted the registry to be universally available to anyone who wanted to make sure their wishes were available wherever or whenever they were needed. We did not want cost to be a factor when people chose to register their advance directives. Many people on fixed or limited incomes are not able to afford even a small registration fee. Therefore, registration of advance directives is free. Registration must be done through a member Health Care Provider or Community Partner. Funding is obtained by charging fees to health care providers for access to the Registry’s automated service. This service gives providers an organized, efficient and low cost way to manage the storage and retrieval of documents at their facilities. To provide the highest level of service to our registrants, non-member providers are able to access the Registry, but cannot use the automated service or submit documents to the Registry for registration.
