How is the raster data stored in the nui file?
There are numerous proprietary patented techniques used to store the raster data in the nui file. These are, of course, highly confidential. Additionally, the raster data is also stored with pyramid levels. Pyramid levels (a.k.a. RRRD’s – Reduced Resolution Datasets) store numerous discrete resolutions of the original file in the same file. Unlike other formats that use pyramid levels, the nui™ format enables you to set these levels at any resolution you desire, not just powers of two.
