How is the Power-on Reset provided to the PDIUSBD12 device?
PDIUSBD12 has a built-in power-on reset circuit. Typically, the reset pin can be directly connected to the Vcc. However, in applications such as the personal digital assistant (PDA) and digital still camera (DSC)—in which the devices are battery operated—PDIUSBD12 is “always on” even when it is not in use. Electrostatic discharge (ESD)-possibly caused by handling or storage–can cause PDIUSBD12 to enter an indeterminate state. To avoid this, it is recommended that an external controlled source (such as a microcontroller or microprocessor) provide the reset to PDIUSBD12, instead of connecting PDIUSBD12 to the Vcc directly. An added advantage is that a reset is easily done: for example, in a PDA the device PDIUSBD12 can be reset whenever data transfer is required through the USB using HotSync application.
