How is The Pig Preserve funded ?
The Pig Preserve was started as a private venture. In the summer of 2006 The Pig Preserve merged with a longstanding and well-known pet pig organization, the Pigs As Pets Association (PAPA), to become The Pig Preserve Associationa 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The Preserve’s mortgage, taxes, insurance, all the farm equipment and much of the fencing and barns remain privately funded by the founders. Our initial investment allowed us to purchase the property, clean it up, install approximately 40 acres of secure fencing and gates, build four large pig barns and rehab an existing barn on the property. The cost of feed, veterinary care and the construction of some of the barns and most of the additional fencing needed to complete the fencing of The Preserve will have to come from donors and sponsorsand, hopefully, from a few grants, if we are lucky and persistent. The Preserve accepts two types of donations: general donations, which are used to address the pressing concerns of fencing
