How is the Peking Gourmet Inn?
Excellent! Made famous by George HW Bush, who had developed a taste for Peking duck when he was ambassador to China. He ate at the PGI so often that the Secret Service had a bulletproof window installed. I don’t eat duck, so I chose their salt-encrusted shrimp, but my friend who had eaten there before asked the waiter that the cooks peel the shrimp before cooking it, which they did. Be sure to order their “garlic sprouts,” too…sounds a bit odd, but tastes great. They have a very extensive menu; prices are moderate but some things get a little pricey. One of those is a $10 mini-glass of Chinese moonshine… something like “Mo Tai.
