How is the organisation participating in the UPR process?
Conectas Direitos Humanos has closely worked with the UPR Process both at the national and international levels. In Brazil, Conectas promoted a consultation process with other human rights NGOs, Special Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic on Human Rights, Ministry of External Relations and National Congress about the Brazil’s Report to the UPR. At the international level, Conectas (i) submitted a report about the situation of human rights in Brazil to the UPR mechanism (considered by the OHCHR as “stakeholders’ information”) ; (ii) along with GAJOP (other NGO from Brazil), presented a joint paper to the troika members about the Brazil’s national report before the UPR session, summarising the most important demands for these two NGOs about the human rights situation in the country ; (iii) attended the UPR session about Brazil on April 11th 2008 ; (iv) sent a letter to the OHCHR and to the UPR Working Group commenting the UPR session report.
