How is the organisation of DAE?
Administratively, the organisation is like that of any Ministry or Department. It has a Secretary (Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission is the ex-officio Secretary in the DAE), an Additional Secretary, few Joint Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, etc. DAE runs three major research centres viz. BARC, IGCAR and the Centre for Advance Technology (CAT), Indore. It also looks after several public sector undertakings and commercial ventures like Nuclear Power Corporation, Electronics Corporation of India. Nuclear Fuel Complex, etc. It aids several autonomous institutions like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the Tata Memorial Centre (a premier cancer control body). The Atomic Energy Commission formulates the policies and programmes for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. It has several independent members from outside the DAE family.
