The Gulf Coast is facing an environmental disaster that will likely overtake the Exxon Valdez as the single worst catastrophe to hit marine wildlife and coastal habitats. Some are already calling the crisis “our Chernobyl.” If the oil gets into the Gulf Stream and circulates around to the Atlantic Coast it definitely will be our Chernobyl. At the moment, dolphins, sea turtles, pelicans and other coastal birds are most at risk. On the human side, this is also going to have a huge economic impact on families that depend on such things as marine fisheries to sustain themselves.
