How is the new building heated?
The new build has been designed to provide a stable environment throughout the year by using the thermal mass of the building which is constructed from reinforced concrete with high spec insulation that is in excess of building regulation requirements. The floors are made from TermoDeck planks which have hollow cores through which air is passed slowly by using fans on the roof of the new build. As the air passes through the structure it warms in winter and cools in summer to provide a consistent temperature within the building. The new building incorporates a biomass boiler which provides all domestic hot water and heating requirements for the whole development, including heating the air to be passed through the TermoDeck. The boiler is fuelled by wood-chip from managed woodland throughout Yorkshire, including a few trees removed from the Emm Lane site at the beginning of the build period. The trees are chipped then dried for 18 months and used to fuel the boiler which operates in a si
