How is the National Education Association (NEA) related to the National Educators Association?
In 2008, Laughland was one of 10 teachers in the United States chosen by the National Educators Association to travel to England and work there with 10 colleagues. She was surprised to learn that in England, students don’t recite a pledge of allegiance, and spectators at sporting events don’t rise to sing the national anthem, she said. “They viewed it as forcing students to say it. I see it as an expression of citizenship,” Laughland said.
