How is the move of the RCMP Headquarters to 3000 Merivale Road being addressed?
The RCMP is relocating their headquarters to the old JDS Uniphase building (3000 Merivale Road). The City of Ottawa has been working closely with the RCMP to determine the best transit routes and level of service to accommodate their employees’ needs. Traffic projections indicate that a large percentage of employees will be commuting from the downtown core or east Ottawa. It can be predicted that as traffic will be operating counter-flow to the auto peak hour traffic on Prince of Wales Drive, that it will not have major operational impacts to existing traffic movements. However, issues of safety for both drivers and cyclists/pedestrians will need to be addressed. Additionally, two (2) new bus routes will be introduced to accommodate employees from Gatineau, West Ottawa, and East Ottawa, as well as Bus Route 176 will run more frequently to accommodate employees from Central Ottawa.
