How is the Mate paid?

Please remember that the mate works for tips. A really good mate can make all the difference in the trip, and Live Wire believes that a mate will work to make your trip all that you hope for. Some of the mate’s duties will include, but are not limited to, catching live bait, cutting/preparing bait, teaching the client how to use the gear and equipment, teaching you “how to fish,” and aiding Captain Michael with any duties that make for your trip on Live Wire exciting and pleasant. The mate will usually arrive an one hour before our scheduled departure time and may not leave until several hours after you leave cleaning the boat, gear, fish, etc. Live Wire guests are kindly suggested to tip 15-20% of the total fare paid, plus fish cleaning at $.30 per pound to the mate.
