A. Shipping is based first on whether or not an item is a certificate (which can be mailed) or merchandise (which requires being shipped). Certificates: • If the value of the certificate is under $500, the charge is $1.50. This amount covers postage and handling. Postage can vary based on the weight of the materials that the donor included with the certificate. • If the value of the certificate is $500 or more, the charge is $7.00. This amount covers postage, handling, and the fee for certified mail or special handling. Merchandise: • The ship cost of an item is based on the ship rate, plus insurance, plus our handling fee. • The ship rate for merchandise is based on the fee for the corresponding weight of the item (see chart below). • All items that are shipped are insured. The buyer pays the insurance fee, which is $1 for every $100 of value after the first $100. Example: Item is worth $600, the first $100 is free, so $500 needs to be covered. Therefore, the insurance fee would be $5
