How is the Maa-nulth Final Agreement different from the Tsawwassen Final Agreement?
There are significant differences between the Maa-nulth Final Agreement and the Tsawwassen Final Agreement.The first important difference is that the Maa-nulth Final Agreement is a multi-First Nation Final Agreement. As a multi-First Nation Final Agreement, the Maa-nulth Final Agreement sets out some elements that are specific to each First Nation, such as each First Nation having its own constitution, its own government, and its own land base. Some elements of the Maa-nulth Final Agreement will be aggregated, such as harvesting rights and harvesting areas. Harvesting rights are collective rights held by each Maa-nulth First Nation that can be exercised in a non-exclusive harvesting area.The second important difference is the rural nature of the land to be provided to the Maa-nulth First Nations under the Maa-nulth Final Agreement.
