How is the location chosen for the GGF?
It usually ends up in northern Michigan for several reasons. First, to keep costs down, the GGF is usually driven to. To be fair to those who drive, a four-hour radius from Metro Detroit is used. Driving 8 hours and then golfing right out of the car wasn’t a fun idea for 21 year olds, and is even less so as we get a little older. Second, Michigan is blessed with bunches of golf resorts that have lodging on-site and 2-5 other affiliated courses within a twenty-minute drive from them (or less). As surprising as it may sound, there are very few resorts in a four-hour radius outside of Michigan that can offer that combination. It’s not a Michigan-specific trip; it just works out that way. The location is usually put to a vote, but it is still a democratic dictatorship, as everyone gets a vote (but it is Dave’s call in the end).
