LCRA forecasts lake levels using computer formulas developed by LCRAs hydrologists. For Lake Buchanan, hydrologists use a program that automatically uploads the latest information on the amount of water that has flowed into the Highland Lakes chain for the day, as well as the latest estimates for up to 60 days on the amount of projected inflows, evaporation rates, and outflows/discharges.
