How is the ICLC teaching approach different from other Chinese language schools in the area?
Our program is run in a respectful and cooperative environment with intuitive and fun activities. Our approach is different in that we stress the function of the language in communication over memorization of vocabulary and grammar. Listening and speaking skills are emphasized early on, while reading and writing are introduced as the learner progresses. Hands-on activities are used to engage learners. Ample practice time is devoted to learners communicative interaction in Chinese. Enrichment units on culture, history and traditions supplement language instruction. Our center seeks to provide students with a foundation for future learning, and to cultivate their long-term interest in the language, culture and traditions of China through a friendly and relaxed educational experience. Our teachers are native Mandarin speakers who are specially trained to teach using this approach.
