How is the EE/CE dept. of Stony Brook?
Stony Brook is ranked around 58th-63rd range(NRC rankings) and has a good Masters and PhD. program for students interested in VLSI, DSP, Computer Architecture but it is average for students interested in Computer Networks/Wireless Communication. A lot depends on what you are interested in. PhD students get some assured support through TAships/Fellowships. There is NO financial aid offered for masters’ students along with admission unless you have have been in touch with the professors. Ofcourse just getting in touch with them will not guarantee any kind of financial support. Most of the masters students come here and talk to the professors before getting some form of support. However, starting Fall 2002 a rule is going to passed stating no aid to Masters students from the department, meaning the department will not give any waivers.
