The resort was created by South African hotel magnate Sol Kerzner and Kerzner International Limited. It is voted to be the best and most beautiful vacation spot in the world. In February 2009, the Nassau/Paradise Island Express program which was owned by Continental Airlines and Atlantis Paradise Island closed because of the financial problems both the resort and airline had. “We are expected to bounce back soon, and when we bounce back, the program will be open to all Continental costumers staying at Atlantis.”, Sol Kerzner said.
