Textbooks, the primary curriculum resource for academic subjects, are purchased each year, from the identical publishing companies used by other schools, private and public. These textbooks are aligned with content standards, common across the country. If the textbooks did not address the standards, the publishers would likely not be able to persuade many schools to buy them. In recent years, companies have been publishing textbooks that align more closely, with the standards of individual states. Al-Arqam has purchased several of these “California Edition” texts. (Attached is an excerpt from one of our teacher editions, listing the standards addressed by the text.) Although, our teachers do base their lessons and year plans on the standards, there are discussions in education circles (among researchers with public school districts) to consolidate or streamline the various state standards, toward national standards, for the reason that the standards lists are simply too extensive for t
