How is the Council ensuring agricultural biotechnology remains viable and is accepted by consumers?
Some key Council actions are: 1) working closely with companies, scientists and EPA to enhance the long-term use of Bt cotton via insect resistance management; 2) monitoring relevant international trade rules and regulations and 3) participating in domestic agriculture and food coalitions to educate decision makers and media, counter misinformation and increase U.S. cotton’s voice on biotech issues. For example, adequately financed biotech research is critical if we are to gain better performing transgenic varieties and realize other consumer oriented benefits such as stronger fiber and cooking oil with reduced saturated fat.
