How is the Comprehensive Plan updated?
The Comprehensive Plan land use map is reviewed biannually at the end of May and November. The purpose of the review is to identify recommended plan amendments that allow the Comprehensive Plan to reflect the changing land use characteristics of the City. Changes to the map reflect rezonings, public buildings, and parks and open space. The City boundary is also amended to include areas that have been annexed into the City of Olathe. Major updates to the Comprehensive Plan, including up-to-date analysis of population, housing, market, and other trends, and a re-examination of the Plan’s goals and objectives, occur on as “as-needed” basis, as directed by the City Council and Planning Commission. The last major update to the Comprehensive Plan occurred in 1997.
