How is the Communication addressing the impact of EU consumption (including biofuels) on tropical deforestation?
The development of biofuels should be sustainable, so vigilance is needed to ensure that further development of domestic production and imports does not jeopardise efforts to protect forests or broader biodiversity priorities. Appropriate criteria are being developed at EU level and the Convention on Biological Diversity is preparing guidance on the biodiversity-related aspects of the sustainability of biofuels.
