How is the committee on Senate Affairs coping with catering for the welfare of Senators?
Senators usually joke about my office being powerful, for the simple reason that I share the same floor with the leadership of the Senate and that I am next door to the Senate President. There is nothing special to it. It is just the added responsibility of catering for the welfare of colleagues; ensuring that they have befitting offices and materials to work with. It has been very challenging. When we came in for this session, the new office complex was not ready and we had problems securing offices for Senators. While returning Senators had places to stay in the old wing, the new ones had no place to stay. We had to work closely with the contractor to ensure that work was completed in time. When the building was handed over, we faced the problem of allocating offices. We had only 84 offices in the new wing, whereas we are 109 Senators.
