How is the Christian Cross a symbol of forgiveness?
Well Christ is more the symbol of forgiveness, where as the cross is a symbol of His death. But we often refer to the Cross as a memorial of Christ – His suffering, His death, His resurrection, His victory over sin and the grave. The Atonement (at one ) which is the word that defines this historic religious event is noteably remembered immediately with the symbol of the Cross of course. Some wear it as jewelery, place it on the cars, in their windows and most especially in the heart of any christian who knows, loves, honors, worships and appreciates the sacrifice for their own personal individual SINS that Christ took upon Himself and realizes that His suffering and death where in a very real way BECAUSE OF US – personally & individually. And yet even while hanging in agony on that cross Christ Himself uttered the words “forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.” THAT kind of love & forgiveness IS exactly what the cross on Calgary’s Hill MEANS above all else.
