How is the Charter used in the URI ?
The Charter has been translated into over 12 languages. It is central to URI development and activities throughout the world. Cooperation Circles members, trustees and staff must be familiar with the Charter and act in accord with its principles. All individuals, associations and organizations who wish to participate as full members in the URI may initiate a Cooperation Circle. Cooperation Circles (CCs) are required to act in accord with the Preamble, Purpose and Principles stated in the Charter and to undertake the rights and responsibilities of Membership stated in the Charter. The Charter includes: A Preamble, Purpose, Principles, and a description of the organizational design. The Charter establishes the rights and responsibilities of members and defines the Global Council (the primary governing Board). While the Charter gives CCs the right to choose their own purpose and activities, it also offers Guidelines for Action to inspire and guide the worldwide URI membership. The Charter
