How Is The Capsule Stain Used In Clinical Microbiology?
Capsule staining (or Gram staining) is a simple and quick way of identifying different bacteria on a swear under the microscope. Basically, you apply four different reagents to the swear. Some bacteria stain purple (gram positive) and some pink (gram negative). You can also tell the shape of the bacteria (cocci, bacilli or rods).
