How is the attention of African-Americans towards Islam?
The African American story has always been kind of connected to the story of Moses and his people. Being in the desert, trying to find their way so there’s always this symbol of the African-Americans in the Jewish tradition. There was this new tradition, Islam that brought up a perfect message for them because it brought them in to the main-stream community. Because African Americans saw themselves in contact with slavery is being lost and now that they wanted to look at themselves differently, they didn’t want to be lost like the Jews in the desert, they wanted to be a part and found. There is a lot of symbolism in the Nation of Islam called “the Lost Nation”. They consider themselves as the lost nation, they wanted to change that to not being a lost nation and being a nation and Islam thought them to be a nation of people.
