How is tapestry woven ?
There are two kinds of loom. On a high warp loom the warp threads, usually uncoloured, are stretched vertically between rollers attached to vertical posts. The threads are spaced to leave a gap between the odd and even threads. Through this the weaver passes the shuttle on which the dyed weft thread is wound. The thread returns through a second shed, created by attaching alternate warp threads to drawstrings which can be pulled forward by the weaver. He works from the reverse side, often with the cartoon (pattern) suspended behind him. On a low warp loom the warp threads are strung horizontally and the pattern is often placed underneath.
