How is support collected??
The Enforcement Unit has various ways of collecting child support which include: Withholding wages – money is taken directly from the earnings of the person who owes child support money. Collections are also obtained from unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation benefits and/or retirement benefits, Tax Intercepts – the Enforcement Unit intercepts State or Federal tax refunds for payments, Reporting to Credit Agencies – the Enforcement Unit reports the party who owes child support to the credit bureaus, Garnishments – bank accounts or other sources of collateral can be attached for support payments, License Suspension – A person’s driver’s license, occupational or professional license can be suspended until the support owed is paid. How is paternity established?? If an alleged parent denies paternity, a blood test can be ordered to establish paternity. If the alleged parent refuses to admit to paternity after a blood test, the case must be settled in court by a judge.
