How is SUBOXONE metabolized?
Buprenorphine is metabolized by cytochrome P-450 3A4 isoenzymes. It is important to carefully monitor SUBOXONE patients who are taking medications that inhibit or induce CYP-450 3A4 isoenzymes. SUBOXONE patients may require a dose reduction if CYP 3A4 inhibitors such as azole antifungal agents (eg, ketoconazole), macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), or HIV protease inhibitors (eg, ritonavir) are coadministered.
