How is stainless trim straightened and restored?
Stainless trim, or any metal trim for that matter, involves carefully straightening the contour of the trim to its original shape and gently “raising” or “picking” out dents. An experienced stainless technician accomplishes this with the aid of a variety of tools such as chisels and hammers. Once the piece is 99% straight, careful filing must be performed to remove minute nonconformities. This step is crucial and requires the precision of a craftsman to assure a minimum of metal removal. Without preservation of sufficient metal thickness, subsequent restoration would be impossible should the piece become damaged in the future. With the straightening process complete, a meticulous sanding process begins using a variety of grits from course to very fine. A final machine polishing brings out the full luster and completes the transformation.
