How is soybean “quality” defined?
For the purposes of the Survey, quality is defined as the composition of given sample of soybeans – the protein, oil, fiber, amino acid, and fatty acid content. The levels of these components help determine the processed value of soybeans. While there are other measures of quality that are used in the marketplace and U.S. grades (e.g., moisture, damage, FM, and free fatty acids) they are not included in the Survey.
