How is Sony using Bluetooth technology for streaming audio applications?
Our most common usage is in a sync device that receives streaming audio from cell phones and other sources, in the form of stereo headphones and CD receivers for cars. Other uses include portable satellite navigation systems, wireless microphones for Handycam video recorders and a Bluetooth wireless adapter that can connect to a hi-fi audio system. Why are some consumers dissatisfied with sound quality over a Bluetooth wireless connection, especially in music applications? We began working with Bluetooth technology for audio applications very early on, and we never saw a problem with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). More often, we received reports on the low sound quality of the SBC (subband codec). We admit that the SBC may not be the best codec out there, but when the sole purpose is to enjoy music in a more casual manner, we don’t see this as a big problem either.
