How Is Solar Energy Harnessed?
Solar Cell Setup Photovoltaic cell, the basic unit of solar power modules, are made of a silicon-based material that absorbs sunlight. These cells are relatively small, with diameters between one and 10 centimeters in diameter. The cells produce up to two watts each. While this is not enough to power most appliances, cells are linked together to produce larger amounts. Cells can be grouped in a module, a weather-sealed container that combines the energy-producing power of several cells. For greater power level, modules can be linked together in arrays.
