How is scoliosis treated in developing countries like Ghana? Is there any treatment available at all?
No. There are hardly any resources to screen and see patients with small curves, let alone treat patients with severe curves. The hope is that over time there can be screening options for adolescents in countries like Ghana, and we can pick out the moderate curves before they become too severe. Also, when we see an adolescent with a thirty-degree curve who is still growing, we might recommend a brace in this country. But the weather is hot, the braces are expensive, and it may not be practical for a patient in a developing country to wear a brace for financial or physical comfort reasons.
