How is round brilliant diamond cut?
The round brilliant diamond cut is the most common diamond cut. The brilliant diamond cut is guided by specific mathematical guidelines, but fancy diamond cut stones are not able to be accurately guided by mathematical guidelines. The techniques for cutting diamonds have been crafted and perfected over hundreds of years. Mathematician Marcel Tolkowsky made the greatest achievement in diamond cutting in 1919. Tolkwosky created the round brilliant diamond cut by calculating the ideal shape to return and scatter light when a diamond is viewed from above. Today, the round brilliant diamond cut has 57 facets (polished faces) with 33 on the crown (top half of diamond), and 24 on the pavilion (the lower half). The crown diffuses light into various colors, and the pavilion reflects light back through the top of the diamond.
