Well, isn’t religion just man’s attempt at following a set of beliefs? Take Christianity for example, the religion that attempts to follow it can be imperfect or even completely opposed to Christianity. Many people would say you follow a religion by being accepted into it by other humans or else by calling yourself a follower of it. That is not what Christianity is. Christianity is a heart transaction whereby one gets in a right relationship with God and then grows in that relationship with Him and other people. According to the Bible, you know a Christian by their love for others (John 13:35, and love fulfils God’s moral Law because it doesn’t harm others-Romans 13:10), good works/fruits/deeds/actions stemming from a changed life (Matthew 7:16-20), and by their following the teachings of Jesus, His Word, i.e. the Bible (John 8:31).
