The standard surge suppressor that is available in the market is usually designed for high magnitude surges or surges that are above normal voltage sine waves; their resistance decreases as the voltage increases. Depending on magnitude of the surge, it can destroy these devices because of excess magnitude over their rating and massive heat which is generated for each clamping.
