How is perception different than sensation?

0

Perception and sensation is closely related. We may see the same image, or hear the same sound but two people may have two entirely different perceptions of it. People are born with sensory tools such as sight, taste, hearing, smell and touch. We collect information about our world and environment through our senses. Our sensory organs work much the same way. Perception is a a process that takes place in the brain, not in the eye or other sensory organ. Information from sensory organs, like pieces of a puzzle, are analyzed and fitted into meaningful form. It is how we interpret the information that our senses bring to us. Perception is a learned skill. It is born from experience, from our culture, our families, the media. Everything that comes before in our lives can influence our perception, thus this is why our perceptions may change.
