How is peat harvested?
Harvesters clear bogs of vegetation and then dig shallow ditches to lower the water table to allow the peat to dry and allow the equipment necessary to harvest the peat on the field. Harrows loosen the top layer of peat moss, which is dried by sun and wind for two to three hours before vacuuming into large harvesters. It is transported from the field to the plant where it is screened, graded and used to blend quality PRO-MIX products.
