How is parking handled at Anderson Center?
The parking area immediately by the center is defined by code, which specifies the number of spaces for the building function. The main requirement is set by the theater. With 225 seats, the code parking requirement is one space for each four seats, so about 60 parking spaces would be required. The total parking requirement was based upon an analysis of the combined average uses throughout the building, leading to 114 spaces, roughly twice what is needed for the theater alone. Some large events such as the Party on the Plaza and the Jack-O-Lantern Walk draw even more participants and supplemental parking is required. This overflow is met by using the Park and Ride spaces at the Anderson Center Station. A few more parking spaces could have been added by the Anderson Center building, but this would have taken away significant amounts of green wooded area and would not have met the overflow crowd needs anyway, so the decision was to shuttle the overflow from the Park and Ride.
