How is parent permission for program placement obtained and documented?
The notification/parent permission form notifies the parent in writing that the student has been classified as LEP. It includes information about the benefits of bilingual education/ESOL and assures the parent that bilingual education/ESOL is an integral part of the school program. Parents who want their child to be placed in bilingual education/ESOL should sign and date the form. Parents, who do not want their child placed in bilingual education/ESOL should write their denial letter on the waiver, sign and date the form. The form must be filed in the students cumulative folder. Parent approval of a childs placement in bilingual education/ESOL is considered valid until a child exits from the program, graduates, or the parent requests other. Annual parent approval is not needed. Sometimes parents give permission for their child(ren) to be in bilingual/ESOL, then deny the program. They may even want to put the child(ren) back in the bilingual education program again. While the parents do
