How Is Oxygen Cycled Through The Biosphere?
There are two main processes occurring in all ecosystems – energy flow and material cycling. Oxygen and carbon dioxide are cycled in a symbiotic relationship (mutualism) between plants, animals and bacteria. This carbon-oxygen cycle operates in water in much the same way as it does on land: • Green plants use carbon dioxide and release oxygen during photosynthesis. • Animals use oxygen and release carbon dioxide during respiration. • Bacteria use oxygen and release carbon dioxide during decomposition.
