How is natural gas imported to Italy?
Three large-sized gas pipelines connect Eni’s national network to the areas of production of natural gas: Algeria, Russia, Holland and Norway. The gas pipelines for imports are: TENP and Transitgas (924 and 291 Km) for imports from Holland and Norway, TAG (1,018 Km) for imports from Russia, and TTPC and TMPC (742 and 775 Km) for imports from Algeria. In addition to Panigaglia, near La Spezia, there is also a re-gassification plant for imports of LNG (liquefied natural gas). When the gas pipeline linking Italy and Algeria, known as Transmed, was constructed it represented a number of technological challenger.
